As we have seen throughout our chapters, Media is extremely present in democracy. We said it influences voters, shapes the image of political figures and serves as a watchdog of the government. The fourth estate is used to designate the press as a powerful structure able to influence democratic decisions.

The watchdog role of the press is to closely monitor the government and all its functions. Thus the press was faced with a massive and dangerous responsibility. They need to make sue that their information is accurate. Investigative reporting faced numerous judicial risks. And many journalists can be threatened by the power of some of the people they’re reporting on. Thus the fourth estate is immensely significant as it helps uncover ugly truth laying behind 'democracy'.
