What are some media effects and their impact on society?

Theorists came up with different categories in which to place Media effects. There are three types of renowned effects in the Media field. The first is the Bullet theory, which claims that the mass media has a direct and immediate effect on the audience. The second is the minimalistic theory, which says that the media does not have a direct effect on people but rather that they are influenced by opinion leaders like the clergy, teachers and some merchants. Lastly, the cumulative theory, states that media influence is gradual over time. This last one also says that media is everywhere, no can escape it and that its influence becomes more powerful with time.

Society is greatly impacted by the mass media. Media has a big influence on democracy and how people vote. Media was able to alter significant social issues such as racism and sexism. It brought knowledge of other cultures and ceased American cultural imperialism. Media affects children both negatively and positively. Violence, murder, sex, and drugs depicted in Media have a harmful influence on children because research has shown that children imitate what they see. On the other hand, children also get to see and learn about things in the media that they would not have the chance to in real life.
