I believe this way is effective because after a certain time of someone looking at a website, they’re obviously interested if they spent a decent amount of time on the page. Taking note of how many people people spend time on a certain website is a good way to track it. However, the internet is still developing and new to media, so many ways to track audiences and rate pages are still being thought up. Also, websites ask viewers to take polls and surveys so they can get a sense of what kind of people are viewing their website. Demographics also play a factor. Websites can make themselves better if they know what age and gender their viewers are.
