How is public relations used as a persuasive tool in communications?

Public relations can be used in many ways to create public interest in new ideas, new events, or even in previous things to popularize them. During WWI President Wilson was concerned about anti-war sentiment, so he had George Creel create a committee to create widespread approval of going into WWI. Even in regular politics, they have communications directors who create press releases and endorsement campaigns in order to raise popularity in their candidate.

In the moderate party, the new third party in RI, they have been trying to popularize the idea that there shouldn’t be just two parties in the US and that there can in fact be the party that sits in the middle, as socially liberal fiscally conservative people who want to fix the problems in government and then get out; meaning no more career politicians. They have been successful with getting the word out, but that is mostly due to the public relations specialists and consultants that schedule press conferences and release statements to the press.
