Fourth Estate

The signifigance of the fourth estate is the watch dog theory. In essenence, this is the publics re assurance of a government check system. It is an informal addition to the checks and balances system, making sure the government stays honest and corruption free. The hope is that the media will provide honest investigation and reporting to keep the governement in check.
