What are Some Mass Media Effects and Their Impact on Society?

The mass media has a large influence over society. It has grown with the development of technology because of its availability to the public. Children are more likely to develop social behaviors through what they are exposed to on television rather than the practices instilled in them by their parents. On the other hand adults are more likely to develop political beliefs through what they are hearing on the television. Through the creation of the television and other mass media outlets society is prone to shape their ideals, beliefs, and values by what they are exposed to through these media products rather than develop their own ideas.

The major influence of the media in today’s society is television because it is seemingly with people for a majority of their lives. Television depicts situations through television shows and children learn how to deal with these situations through those shows. The media creates a certain expectation about dealing with situations that children will try to imitate to a degree. Also through television people have become more accustomed to violence of any kind and do not react as strongly when violence presents itself as a real life issue. Television has affected the way society has viewed and handles situations and at the rate things are going people will be expecting the severity of situations to become increasingly worse before we attempt to reconcile them.
