Which audience analysis measurements principles and techniques are most effective and why?

There are several ways to analyze audiences. Probability sampling is an effective audience measurement technique. Polling and surveying are also commonly used methods. All these methods are ways for mass media to discover their mass audiences. Once they know their audiences, advertising and marketing officials can target the people they want to reach.

Another technique used for audience analysis was the invention of the meter, in the 1970s. A meter is a device that that tracks individual viewers and thus media people could determine which programs appealed to people. This helped them analyze their audience and thus target the viewer and make more profit.
