Technology Dependance
In today's era, where the ability to reach hundreds or thousands of people is just one click of a mouse away, many people feel addicted to the technology that surrounds us. I'll be the first to admit that if I go anywhere without my cellphone in my pocket I feel like I'm missing something, and when I go on my annual trip to South Dakota for a week, where cell phone service is scarce, I feel like I missed a week of the real world and feel disconnected from people for the proceeding few days. This technologic dependance allows the average person access to an amount of information that even exceeds the amount known by the learned geniuses of past times. In this aspect, a college kid at his computer could easily figure out a mathematic equation or the definition of a word, but this creates laziness, why learn things when you can figure out anything within a few minutes or seconds at the computer? Another downside of our seeming dependance on technology is that it lowers the amount of interpersonal communications drastically; people would rather just send a text or an e-mail than talk to someone in person, especially if it's a tough issue to discuss, like firing someone. Technology dependance is a major problem today and we need to find a solution before interpersonal communication becomes a secondary form of communication, used only as a last resort.
