A few centuries ago, people had no idea what an electronic device was. Technology as we know it today did not exist. No phones, no computers, no Internet, no television, no radio, not even simple talkie walkies. So how did people communicate back then? Instead of instant messaging, they would write letters and send them by mail. Those letters however took weeks to arrive to their destination. With time, the post man began using a bicycle to deliver mail, and then a couple of decades later he maybe drove the first industrial car made in the United States, Ford’s T-model. Later on, with the invention of planes, airmail became possible. Now, we just dial a number, type an e-mail or write a text message to communicate. This is precisely what Technology Dependence is. It is the importance we give and how much we rely on technology to communicate. It is almost unimaginable to communicate without the technology present today. Technology does not affect just communication but also professional work, educational studies, and leisure interests such as travelling, shopping etc.
The creation of printing and photography revolutionized the world. Newspapers, magazines, and books made knowledge more accessible to people. Printing encouraged the fast spread of ideas, opinions, political and social views over vast distances. The development of motion picture in the late 1800’s modernized this industry. Then, of course the most significant aspect of modern technology is electricity. Without it none of the technological tools we use daily to facilitate our lives, would be present. We are currently living in a world that considers technology as a vital need.
