What is Technology Dependence?

Technology dependence dates all the way back to the 1440’s with the printing press. Suddenly, the written word could be massed produced, and since then everyone has been hooked on technology. Then came chemical, electronic and digital technology, meaning photos, movies, television, radio, and internet. Not a day goes by where something new is being thought of, produced, and sold to the billions of people in the world. People don’t talk about how amazing inventions were like paper reels and typesetting because every day our minds are consumed by technology. Every second of every day, people are surfing the web on the computers, phones and iPads, or listening to music on their iPods, televisions and phones. There are so many outlets to do one thing. In the car, you don’t just drive anymore. You listen to the radio, watch the GPS, and call your family via bluetooth technology. This decreases actual, physical human contact. I’ve witnessed situations where people have lost their phones or dropped them in the water and didn’t waste one second before ordering a new one because they’d be lost without them. I honestly believe this world would crumble without technology because everyone and everything is dependent on it.
