The mass communication that we have been talking about almost completely relies on technology dependence. I say this because with out the evolution of technology then mass communication would most likely not exist as we know it. Even though interpersonal communication still happens today, it is rare to not use technology when trying to communicate with someone, we as humans in this society rely on technology.
Without Johannes Gutenbergs invention of movable metal type many of the technologic devices we have today would not exist. Gutenberg took a mixture of alloys to create tiny little letters that would be placed and arranged to make words on a printing press, making the rearrangement of letters easier. With this invention mass production of the written word was possible and a lot easier than in the past. Then during the 1800's industrial revolution high speed presses pushed the production rate even higher. Could you imagine a world with out newspapers or magazines? Or even television, where would people get their news from?
Through the evolution of technology the wonderful internet was invented. The internet takes its users literally anywhere they want with out even having to leave the room. Not only does the internet take us anywhere we want but it connects us. A lot of people depend on the internet to learn about what is going on in the world. In the past several years, the transformation of paper to the web took off. This change goes to show our dependence on technology.
Who knows what is in store for the future world of technology. But whatever is in the future it will have people depending on it most likely even more than they do today.
