Conglomeration: How it Has Changed the Movie and Television Industry

Six main studios dominate Hollywood movie production and distribution. These six studios are corporately connected with the television industry. Major studios put the industry into “verticle integration,” with one company owning multiple stages of production, to the detriment of competition.
Among the major Hollywood conglomerates are, Disney, Columbia, 20th Century Fox, Universal and Warner. Media conglomeration has affected the movie and television industries by creating a multifaceted business in which major companies own, produce, and distribute both television and movies. Once two separate entities, television and movies have become intertwined, often sharing corporate owners, content and stars, due to conglomeration.
