Who are the gatekeepers of the news? How effective is investigative reporting in informing the public?

Gatekeepers are an important part of the news business—the decision making part. They decide what deserves to be told and how it is presented to the mass audience. These people work behind the scenes to decide which stories are appropriate and relevant to broadcast. Gatekeepers do not only work with broadcasting news through television but they also decide what information should be presented on the Internet.

Investigating reporting is also an important part for news. They effectively transport interesting and important news to the mass audience. They deeply investigate a single issue of interest to themselves and to the mass audience. The stories that are covered by investigative journalists are usually raw and intense. Many times, this type of media is not filtered before it is displayed to the world. People like this type of news, which makes it effective. The audience knows the content is not missing pieces. They are getting the entire true stories instead of just the sweet coating.
