Conglomeration has all the power in the marketplace. Major studios dominate in Hollywood making the lifespan of independent studios short. Indie studios usually have a single breakthrough film and don’t get much attention after that. Even so, Indies have to lean on major corporations for financing and go through them for distribution. If Independent studios establish a track record, the major companies end up taking them over. Today, movie and television companies are one in the same. If major movies are popular enough, they can become television and the same for television series transferring to the big screen. Television is dominated by the Big Three. They provide programming to local stations in prime time and daytime. Their programs almost reach the whole country. Local stations are licensed by national government. Today, many corporations own both television stations and movie studios.
