Pubic Relations is the ability for a business, governmental or social organization to communicate effectively with other groups of people. Public Relations and Media go hand in hand because it is through the media that PR works. Simultaneously, PR also immensely influences Media. PR allows the establishment of a credible relationship between the public and the association. Advertising and PR are also similar in the sense that they both use Media to convey crafted messages to mass audiences. No matter how persuasive PR is in communications, people involved in public relations must follow ethical and honest practices.
Many PR people, much like the pioneer Ivy Lee, use PR as a persuasive tool in communications. They search what it is that the public wants from a certain organization or institution and then use the media to give it to them. PR can be very powerful in unifying the ideas of millions of people. We have seen it countless times in presidential campaigns or protest for political causes such as social issues or even war. A well-known example is Woodrow Wilson’s PR committee campaigning against anti-WWI feelings.
