Who are the gatekeepers of the news? How effective is investigative reporting in informing the public?

The gatekeepers of the news by definition are the media people who influence messages en route. They are the editors, publishers, reporters or anyone who has a say in what is reported. They say what stays and what goes, and ultimately what the public knows. If the gatekeepers don’t think it is newsworthy then the public may never know about it.

Investigative reporting is fairly affective in reporting accurate news to the public. They get to the real base of the story and work up, covering all angles possible. Investigative reporting may take more time to develop the stories, but they are by far more informative than a news clip. Viewers get in depth coverage of a story, and in a real sense, that is not sensationalized. In a nutshell investigative reporting informs the public much more than a regular news story that is regurgitated over and over again.
