The gatekeepers of the news are those who control what goes in the newspaper, show, etc. If the news allowed for any story to be reported, then there would be a decent amount of chaos. The gatekeepers choose what stories are going to be reported, how long they can be and to exercise news judgment deciding what most deserves to be told and how. Being a gatekeeper needs a good amount of creativity. Trimming news stories can either make it or break it, so knowing how to change a story effectively is a must. Most gatekeepers are invisible to the public because they work behind the scenes.
I think that investigative journalism is very effective. Even though all reporting is technically investigative, the difference is that the stories reveal unknown facts, uses diverse sources, and expose the truth. Its clear that investigative journalism is effective because of what happens after it is published. For example, the Watergate scandal. Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward uncovered this scandal and directly after President Nixon resigned due to his image in the publics mind.
