In what way has deregulation changed the radio and recording industry?

Deregulation has had a major impact on the radio and recording industry. Many announcers and artists have taken full advantage of the freedom to speak their minds, causing conflict and numerous arguments throughout the years. The radio and recording industry has transformed into a place to freely talk and sing about issues ranging from love to politics to violence. People enjoy listening to and participating in the different topics radio stations explore. One of the addicting characteristics of the radio and recording industry is the ability to openly explore ideas and issues in the form of entertainment. Deregulation has played a major role in shaping the radio and recording industry into what it has become today.

The radio is a source of entertainment that involves listening to a station of your choice and hearing what those particular announcers and the lyrics in the music have to say. Deregulation has given people like Howard Stern the power to discuss any topic, no matter how vulgar it may be. Announcers are allowed to use terms that they were once prohibited from using; swearing is commonly used among radio stations broadcasting to those of age. Deregulation has also helped the public get a better understanding of certain issues, like politics, that the government would not have allowed before. For example, during Bush’s presidency, many radio stations would make rude remarks regarding his stay in office. Radio stations often test their limits when it comes to making announcements.

The recording industry has benefited from deregulation because it has given artists the freedom to record whatever lyrics they want. Artists take full advantage of their freedom and often sing about events that can cause controversy, such as premarital sex, violence, drugs, and cheating. Lil Wayne is one of the most controversial artists because he raps about topics that are inappropriate as well as too mature for a number of his fans. Because of deregulation, he is able to record explicit lyrics and share them with the public. Deregulation has also helped artists reach out to their audiences and share lyrics that can be meaningful. The recording industry is a great place to share feelings on past, present, and future events around the world.

Overall, deregulation has helped the radio and recording industries expand. Because both the radio and recording industries have the ability to freely broadcast, announcers and artists often go beyond their limits and talk and sing about topics that are more mature/vulgar than their audiences. Deregulation has shaped today’s radio and recording industry and it has changed the way people view the industries as a source of entertainment and information.

  1. Following U.S. politics may inspire you to call a comedian a bigot or to kill a Muslim. Being informed, like voting, is as American as apple pie Unfortunately, cooking a pie is more difficult than eating it, and interpreting media is more difficult than consuming it.
