Who are the gatekeepers of the news? How effective is investigative reporting?

Gatekeepers are people who control and monitor news before it is released to the public. A gatekeeper’s primary duty is to filter the information in the news. They can shorten a reporter’s story, add details to an article or edit a website’s news story. Thus improving the way news is portrayed to the rest of the world. Gatekeepers also regulate the accuracy of a reported work and make sure factual evidence is correct.

Investigative reporting is a type of journalism in which reporters deeply investigate on a topic, often involving crime, political corruption or corporate wrongdoing. Investigative reporting allows to uncover the truth about social and political issues that are morally wrong and need to be addressed. Investigative reporting is only effective if readers take the time to consider and react to it. If a reporter investigates on a case and presents it to his audience, yet no one reacts to it, it’s as if he had done nothing.
