In What Way Has Deregulation Changed the Radio and Recording Industries?

When deregulation came about in the 1996, both pros and cons came, as well. The Telecommunications Act had now allowed radio stations to become conglomerations. They could now own many stations. This was a benefit to them, but a disadvantage for small companies. It made it nearly impossible for small businesses to survive competing against businesses with up to eight stations.
Although the government did, and still does, have control over many aspects of radio and recording industries, deregulation eliminated a percentage of their power. Regulating what can be broadcasted and said throughout radio stations is something the government is known for having control over. Even though there is often controversy about this topic, deregulation helped give radio stations and recording industries part of their freedom back and allowed them more power over their own businesses.
